Welcome to the Jazzschool, the California Jazz Conservatory’s Community Education Program! Since our founding in 1997, we’ve been providing music education and performance opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels in Berkeley, CA. And now, we even have online options for those who can’t make it to our in-person classes.
We offer a wide range of classes and ensembles for both adults and youth, covering everything from jazz and blues to Brazilian, funk, Latin and beyond. If you’re an instrumentalist or vocalist looking to improve your skills, we’ve got classes and ensembles for beginning, intermediate and advanced musicians. And if you’re just a music lover looking to learn something new, we’ve got plenty of options for you too!
Our Young Musicians Program (JYMP) is perfect for middle and high school students. We offer small and large ensemble classes, as well as vocal performance classes and camps and intensives throughout the year. And of course, all of our ensembles get to perform in the Jazzschool Student Performance Series, which is free and open to the public. Just be sure to check out our audition requirements and application instructions if you want to join an ensemble.
We also offer a variety of workshops throughout the year, covering a wide range of topics and taught by some of the best artists and educators around. You can sign up for a single session or a short series, and you can even attend online if you can’t make it to our in-person classes. (See course descriptions for more details.)
So whether you’re an experienced musician or just looking to try something new, the Jazzschool has something for you. We can’t wait to see you in class!
