Study bass performance practice in an intimate setting with one of the best in the biz! Known for his expertise as a soloist and a consummate groove player, Michael “Tiny” Lindsey joins the Jazzschool faculty to offer this new class covering a wide range of essential skills for the gigging electric bassist. Applicable to various genres from jazz to funk, R&B, and beyond. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to practice and perform in a supportive and collaborative environment. Tiny will offer personalized instruction and feedback to help students refine their skills and reach their full potential as electric bassists. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of electric bass performance and be able to apply their skills to a variety of musical contexts. Suggested prerequisites: basic technical facility and fretboard knowledge on the bass.
About Michael “Tiny” Lindsey
Born into a family of musicians, Michael “Tiny” Lindsey’s inevitable musical career began at an early age. By the age of fifteen, Michael was already performing in local venues throughout the New York area. With Michael’s ability to play genres such as pop, R&B, rock, jazz, blues, funk, and gospel he went on to form his career and develop talent and reputation as a skilled and versatile bassist and background vocalist.
Over the past 13 years, Michael has toured extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan, South America, and Africa with artists such as Grammy-nominated Ryan Shaw, award-winning R&B artist Joe, Sunshine Anderson, Anthony Hamilton, Gavin Degraw, William DuVall (Alice In Chains), and Matt Nathanson. Michael has also been blessed to share the stage with Van Halen, Macy Gray, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Steely Dan, Joss Stone, John Legend, Boyz II Men, Will Hoge, Hanson, Derrick Trucks, B.B. King, Common, Buddy Guy, Bruce Hornsby, Angie Stone, Joss Stone, Jay-Z, R. Kelly, Black Eyed Peas, and India Arie. As a member of Sunshine Anderson’s band, he wrote, arranged, and co-produced on her debut album “You’re Woman” (Atlantic Records) as well as on Ryan Shaw, & smooth jazz artist Shawn Raiford.
Michael has performed live on TV shows such as “Last Call” with Carson Daly, Martha Stewart, “Really Big Show” with Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, Rosie O’Donnell, “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, and “Later” with Jools Holland.
Michael is currently dividing his time performing and touring as well as doing local performances between the east and west coast. He will continue to compose, perform and produce with various artists.
