About Ellen Johnson

Ellen Johnson has devoted over three decades to the arts as a recording artist, educator, songwriter, lyricist, author, and publicist. She holds a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance serving on the voice faculties of the University of San Diego /Old Globe Theatre MFA program, Cal Poly University Pomona, and the California Jazz Conservatory/Jazzschool along with other colleges. As a professional vocalist Ellen has sung and taught a variety of styles of music from classical, jazz, folk, musical theatre and contemporary. Her diversity in her own professional singing has made her an excellent teacher for cross over styles and she has a strong background in vocal pedagogy and vocal rehabilitation assisting singers with difficult vocal issues. In the jazz community she has performed and recorded with Charles McPherson, Louie Bellson, Bobby McFerrin, Sheila Jordan, Roy McCurdy, Don Braden, Larry Koonse, and John Stowell among others. She is the author of Jazz Child: Portrait of Sheila Jordan and has published lyrics to Sonny Rollins and Charles Mingus compositions. Currently she provides master classes, online classes and teaches privately through Vocal Visions.
