This quarter, we will explore and arrange cornet/trumpet player Don Cherry’s brilliant 1966 debut as a leader, Complete Communion. From bop-inflected runs and riffs to swirling free improvisation and lots of conversational interplay between melody instruments and rhythm section, this record has it all. It’s full of humor and life, joy and beauty, with catchy themes and wicked grooves. Check out “Elephantasy” from the second half of the record: https://youtu.be/VIL5kGL75U0
Please note: This class culminates in a performance in the final week of the term (week 10). All Jazzschool student performances are free and open to the public! Please confirm your availability for the performance date (the week 10 class meeting date) before finalizing your registration in this class.
