Known for playing with The Hogan Brothers and many other groups around the Bay Area, drummer Julian Hogan shares some of the tools he uses to make even the most straightforward drumset rhythms and grooves sound hip and interesting.

Concepts covered apply to a wide range of styles.

About Julian Hogan

Julian, a lifelong music enthusiast, was born into a family of musicians, igniting his passion from an early age. His musical journey took flight during his time with the Berkeley High School Jazz ensemble, where he flourished. Julian’s talent led him to international stages, performing at prestigious jazz festivals across Europe. Notably, he played a pivotal role in securing the Monterey Jazz Festival High School Competition victory for two consecutive years, earning the outstanding soloist award on drum set. Continuing his education at CSU Northridge, Julian honed his skills with the acclaimed Jazz ‘A’ Band and studied under legendary drummer Gregg Bissonette. His versatility shines through as he authentically navigates a wide range of musical styles. Julian has shared the stage with notable artists like Bobby Brown, Too Short, Anderson Paak, and Miguel, among others. He has also opened for renowned acts including Tower of Power, Third Eye Blind, and Hall & Oates. Currently, Julian thrives as both a performing musician and a dedicated music instructor, specializing in drum set. His ongoing collaboration with The Hogan Brothers trio, featuring his brothers Steve on bass and Colin on keyboards, fuels his passion for creating and sharing music.
