Develop the skills and repertoire needed for typical jazz gigs through the study and performance of common jazz styles, including swing, bossa nova, jazz waltz, and ballads. The instructor covers repertoire, essential arranging concepts (intros, endings, etc.), relevant jazz harmony, and tips for soloing. Prerequisites: knowledge of basic jazz theory and ability to keep time and read music. Some previous ensemble experience.

Ensembles take place IN-PERSON at the California Jazz Conservatory. 

All ensembles require a placement audition.

A versatile and seasoned bassist, educator, and arranger, Glenn has played with many name players like Bobby Hutcherson, Jon Hendricks, Jimmy Heath, Cedar Walton, Slide Hampton, Dave Liebman, John Hicks, Chet Baker, Arthur Prysock, Lewis Nash, Larry Willis, Eddie Marshall, Renee Rosnes, Billy Hart, Micky Roker, Anthony Wilson, and Joe Gilman. He was a member of the Bobby Hutcherson Quartet from 2007 until Bobby’s death in 2016. In 2009, he recorded Bobby’s last CD, “Wise One.” He formerly taught at Chabot College and The Brubeck Institute and is presently teaching bass, jazz theory, harmony and jazz ensembles at UC Berkeley, The Jazzschool, The California Jazz Conservatory, and privately.
