About Omar Ledezma

Omar Ledezma Jr., a Grammy Award-winning percussionist and singer, was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. His musical journey began at the age of 17, and he has been playing professionally ever since. Ledezma’s passion led him to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston after graduating from one of Caracas’s most esteemed law schools in 1995. In 2005, he completed his studies at Berklee and made his way to the Bay Area.

In addition to his impressive solo career, Ledezma has collaborated with local and international artists. He founded the Ka-Hon Ensemble, a group dedicated to the wooden box percussion instrument. Notably, he played a significant role in the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures In Music program. In 2014, he achieved global acclaim by winning a Grammy with the Pacific Mambo Orchestra.

As an educator, Ledezma shares his rich cultural heritage with students across the Bay Area. He teaches at the Community Music Center and serves as a music accompanist for the San Francisco Ballet Dance In Schools and Communities (DISC) education program. His hope for the next generation of musicians is that they continue to create beautiful music, embrace technology, and establish genuine connections with their audiences.
