June 27-July 1
All Instruments Grades 7—10
In this fun week-long summer program, young musicians entering grades 7 – 10 develop skills in ensemble playing, music reading, improvisation, instrumental technique, rhythm, jazz theory, and more
Ensembles are at the core of the Summer Youth Program curriculum.
In each rehearsal, students develop instrumental technique, section skills including blend, intonation and phrasing, ear training, reading, and improvisation.
The ensemble directors introduce students to a range of music drawn from jazz and related traditions, focusing on historically significant pieces and more contemporary material.
Each participant receives two 30-minute Private Lessons on their primary instrument over the week.
Guest Master Classes feature professional bands representing a variety of styles, performing for the attendees and sharing insights in an informal Q&A setting.
Student-led Jam Sessions provide an opportunity for music-making outside of the structured ensemble format.
Open to all brass, woodwind, string instruments, piano, guitar, vibraphone, bass
